2010 May Read the NEW 2010 newsletter about the 2008-2009 school year! 2007 June Click here to get all the improvements during the 2007-08 school year 2006 June We have raised some funds towards the rent and signed rental agreement and moved the girls into the new building after of over a year in tents. The new school building has spacious and airy classrooms, running water with bathrooms, staff room for teachers, office for the principal. There is lots of space for girls to play. ![]() 2005 December Miraculously, we have found a spacious rental property adjacent to the school. The rent for the building is $1000/ month. 2004 While the multi-faceted program for all around improvement of the girls has made the girls healthy and happy their early marriages needed to be addressed. AWCC started counseling to stop the early marriages because the families are not able to feed them and fathers oppose the education of girls. We are especially counseling fathers to allow the girls to go to college, which will give them good jobs to earn enough to come out of poverty. To sponsor a college girl cost is $60/- a year. We promise to support them through graduation. After which we help with job placement. Help is also given to very sick mothers in the form of medicines and food supply. Calamity--November of 04 the torrential rains were lashing the city and the dilapidated old structure of the school collapsed while the girls were on Diwali holidays. Thank god the girls were not hurt. Tents were raised on the open field of the property. It is cold and raining but we have no choice. We have started our efforts to find a place but it is next to impossible to get such a place to house 200 girls. ![]() ![]() ![]() 2003 Old management resigned and AWCC took over management and raised enough funds and bought the school property. AWCC started a multifaceted programs for all girls by providing fees, books, uniforms shoes, porridge, dental and eye check-ups and medicines. 2001 AWCC adopted this high school with 200 young very poor girls from the slums. This school had no bathrooms, no running water, girls sit huddled in dark dusty cheerless rooms, trying to get an education which, they were told would improve their lives. 2000 AWCC moves towards EDUCATION & HEALTH AS EMPOWERMENT ![]() 1999 Our first project raised funds to complete a huge facility for an orphanage in Bangalore, which houses 150 orphans. |
