2000
AWCC moves towards EDUCATION & HEALTH AS EMPOWERMENT

2001
AWCC adopted this high school with 200 young very poor girls from the slums. This school had no bathrooms, no running water, girls sit huddled in dark dusty cheerless rooms, trying to get an education which, they were told would improve their lives.

2003
AWCC raised funds and bought the property of the school. Now all girls get porridge, dental work and eye examinations.

2004
AWCC took over management and began a multi-faceted program for the all around improvement of these girls.

2005
AWCC counseling programs for the girls as well as the poor mothers and fathers and help given to some very sick and poor mothers in the form medicines, supply of food.

2005-2006 COLLEGE PROGRAMS
AWCC started the college program to stop the early marriages these girls were facing because their families are not able to feed them. We pay their college fee, books, bus passes and help their families with food supplies. We counsel the mothers and fathers to allow these girls to go to college so that they can have good jobs and earn enough to come out of their poverty. To sponsor a college girl costs $60/year only. We promise to support them through graduation. After which we help with job placement.

2006 November
Due to heavy flooding in Bangalore, the school roof collapsed while the girls were on Diwali holidays. AWCC had to raise tents on the open field of the school property. It was cold and rainy every day but we had to raise funds to start the new school building construction. To do this we had to move the girls out of the tents. We found a spacious rental property adjacent to the school which we will rent for use as temporary classrooms. WE HAVE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE RENTAL AMOUNT, WHICH IS $1000/MONTH. OUCH!!
